Queens trio Island Twins hook, a little jagged on free song
We’ve made no secret of our fondness for fuzzed-over lo-fi pop, so we’ve fallen hard for Island Twins.
The Queens, N.Y., group started early in 2011 as a project for singer and songwriter Erik Brauer, who quickly added his sister, Meagan, on bass and friend Tony Del Cid on drums. They make gloriously hooky music on “Lying in State,” the free song from the trio’s forthcoming self-titled debut. It’s catchy and a little jagged, with Erik Bauer’s vocals ebbing and flowing over his trebly guitar parts and Meagan’s bold, punchy bassline.
It’s a sweet tune, and we’re looking forward to hearing more. “Island Twins” is due May 1.
