Catwalk reimagines 'Christmas Don't Be Late,' sans squeaky chipmunk voices

If you’re of a certain age, your Christmas dreams are likely haunted by the grating strains of Alvin & the Chipmunks singing “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” You know the one, with Alvin squeaking, “Me, I want a hula hoop.”

If you can bear to part with the kitsch of the original, Oxnard, Calif., garage-pop band Catwalk has recorded a lovely new version of the song that brings the vocals down about four octaves. It’s lilting, with a hint of twinkling lights and gentle snowfall, and it’s a cinch for your indie-rock Christmas mix playlist.
