New Haven’s Glamour Assassins Hone Dance-Pop Edge on ‘Ain’t So Young’ Single

Glamour Assassins

As much as Connecticut’s music scene has grown and strengthened over the years, there haven’t been a lot of bands carrying a flag for dance-pop with a new wave edge. Glamour Assassins fills that void.

The New Haven quintet just released their second single, “Ain’t So Young,” which is also the title of the band’s forthcoming debut album. The song mixes a punchy guitar riff with open, airy synthesizers over a swaying beat and a catchy melody that sounds like the best of 1982, especially when the atmospheric verse pivots into an urgent refrain where guitarist Nick Post’s plaintive vocals give way to urgent exhortations from guitarist Jared Savas, who’s backed by a chorus of “yeah yeahs!”

Post and Savas are joined in Glamour Assassins by drummer Jose Novo, keyboardist/singer Carrie Martinelli and bassist Gil Morrison. The band’s lineup solidified in 2014, and they released their first single, “Phantom of the Disco,” last fall. The group is planning a July release for the album “Ain’t So Young,” which they recorded with producer Joey Mascola.
