Electro duo the Golden Filter plays SXSW; sets release date for debut LP

We’d been wondering what had happened to the Golden Filter, and now we know: The New York electro duo finally releases its debut album, “Voluspa,” June 15 in the U.S.

About time. Listen, Dammit, saw Penelope and Stephen (they’re informal like that) perform last year at South by Southwest, and that shit was off the hook. We seem to recall a totally awesome cover of the White Stripes’ song “The Hardest Button to Button,” and a ton of sweaty people dancing their asses off during an afternoon set at a day party at Peckerhead’s.

June is a long way off, but the duo is giving you an early taste of the album with a free download of the lead single, “Hide Me,” available here in exchange for your e-mail address or a Twitter post. Penelope’s breathy voice is right up front over the pulse of a bright, sugary synthesizer vamp and clattering percussion.

Also: The Golden Filter is back at SXSW this year. You can catch their official showcase Friday at Emo’s Jr.
