Huff This! Takes a Journey on Moody New Track 'Lost at Sea'

Although Alison Clancy has been performing as Huff This! for a few years now, she’s back with a new song, “Lost at Sea,” and a new incarnation of the group, which will make its live debut Thursday, Oct. 17, as part of CMJ in New York.

Clancy describes “Lost at Sea” as “a journey through a digital haze of heartbreak and solace,” which is apt: her clear voice reverberates with icy intensity while waves of brawny, buzzing synthesizers wash over a simple guitar figure. She recorded the song with occasional collaborator Benjamin Ickies, though he’s not part of the newest lineup of the band, which coalesced backstage at the Metropolitan Opera, where Clancy is a dancer. Between opera acts, Clancy and fellow corps member Allison Jones started collaborating on music, and this summer they added drummer Erica Mancini, guitar player Jennifer Eden and dancer Ali Castro to round out this version of Huff This!

They perform Oct. 17 at midnight at the Paperbox in Brooklyn as part of Citrus and the City CMJ showcase. Tickets are available here.

Speaking of CMJ, it’s shameless plug time: Listen, Dammit’s day party with Nick Loss-Eaton Media and Highline Records takes place Saturday, Oct. 19, at Skinny Dennis in Brooklyn. It’s free!
