Jesus Sons Rev Up Garage Rock on ‘Who’s Around’

There’s always room for loud, unvarnished garage rock, and Jesus Sons qualify admirably on “Who’s Around,” a track from their forthcoming self-titled debut.

The Los Angeles band sounds like they exist in a haze of Ray-Bans, leather jackets and spring reverb on the tune, a gritty, propulsive rocker full of trebly guitar, wailing harmonica and laconic drawled vocals. “Who’s Around” is representative of the album, which draws on the influence of the Velvet Underground, early Rolling Stones and “Rebel Without a Cause” on nine jangly rock ‘n’ roll songs.

The quintet will release “Jesus Sons” Jan. 28 on Mock Records.
