Join the navy? Not if Rihanna is commanding officer

It used to be that Kiss had an army, Grateful Dead aficionados were Deadheads and, sometime later, fans of Insane Clown Posse were known as Juggalos. Everyone else who liked a band was just a fan.

Now everybody’s fanbase has a name, for which we can probably blame Clay Aiken and his “Claymates.” Justin Bieber fans are Beliebers, Lady Gaga has her little monsters, Rihanna for some reason dubbed her fans a navy, Nicki Minaj calls hers “barbz” and Katy Perry fans, I learned this morning, are known as KatyCats.

Nah, nothing here for the terrorists to complain about.

It all dates back to the 1912 Red Sox (doesn’t everything?) and the Royal Rooters. As far as I know, it’s the first time a fan base named itself.

That doesn’t have much to do with pop music, but OK.

Pop music learned everything it knows from the Boston Red Sox.

The only thing more annoying than Bieber is the the term “Beliebers.” But, if there isn’t already a stupid name for DMB fans someone should make one up. At least, that way, we can have some fun with it.
