French lo-fi band La Femme gets noirish on 'Sur La Planche' mp3 from debut EP

We’re guessing “French band” isn’t the first idea that comes to mind when you hear the phrase “lo-fi surf-rock.” And yet, there’s La Femme, a French band playing lo-fi surf-rock — and doing it rather well.

The Paris quintet next week releases its debut EP, “Le Podium#1,” described by La Femme’s publicist as walking “the line between erotic avant-pop and lo-fi.” Sounds hot, non?

It is, actually. Free song “Sur La Planche” is sleek and noirish, with a steady, pulsing bassline and shards of guitar echoing through vast dark spaces.

The band has also made a video for “Télégraph,” a song with waves of trebly guitar and breathy vocals (be warned: the video contains a couple flashes of bare bottoms, if that’s the sort of thing your workplace gets uptight about).
