Liars ready fifth studio album with free download of dark new song 'Scissor'

Call them art-rock, post-punk, dance-punk — whatever the label, the bottom line is that Liars has made compelling, often fascinating music on four studio albums. With a fifth, “Sisterworld,” due in March, the band is giving away the new song “Scissor.”

The band, now based in Berlin, wrote the songs on “Sisterworld” in Los Angeles with producer Tom Biller. It’s the first album the Liars have recorded entirely in the United States since their witchcraft-themed 2004 release “They Were Wrong, So We Drowned.”

Liars describe “Sisterworld” in a press release as an exploration of the support systems people find, or invent, to cope with the loss of self to society: “We’re interested in the alternate spaces people create in order to maintain identity in a city like L.A., environments where outcasts and loners celebrate a skewered relationship to society.”
