Back from the farm, Casey Burge forms Minden to release catchy pop songs

Knowing that singer and songwriter Casey Burge once took a break from music in favor of working on farms is a little confounding, given that the debut single from his new band, Minden, sounds basically nothing like a farm, the environs of a farm or, really, anyone who’s ever spent any time at all near a farm.

“Swift Way On” has a glossy pop sound calling to mind glittering lights and late nights in some big city full of romantic sophisticates. It’s glamorous, a little gritty and oh so catchy, with a big, bold beat, smooth and seductive bass, spiky guitars and Burge’s sleepy, bemused vocals. It’s a triumphant debut, especially given that Minden has been playing together for barely five months, since Burge formed the group after moving to Kansas City late in 2010.

The single, b/w “Shine the Trophy Up,” is due June 21 on local label The Record Machine.

We saw you guys at the Record Bar last night. Your sound is great and we look forward to seeing more of you in Lawrence. Come on over to Top-town, if you dare!

Thanks for contributing to a grand evening!
