Nashville teens The Paperhead dig into psychedelia on free track from debut LP

Even though Nashville is still Country Music HQ, the city clearly has a thriving garage-rock scene: Music City USA has given indie rock fans bountiful gifts in recent years, from the Shazam to Be Your Own Pet to the latest, the Paperhead.

The trio of 18-year-olds dig into the trippy sound of late-’60s psychedelia — fuzz-tone guitars, hazy vocal intonation, tambourine on the hi-hat — on “Back to Those Days,” the free song from their forthcoming self-titled debut, due March 22 on Trouble in Mind. You can almost smell the incense.

The press notes make disturbing reference to the musicians having gone “their separate ways to start college,” but here’s hoping they get back together when summer comes back around.
