Connecticut Bands Come Together for Newtown Benefit Compilation

The Guru contributed a song to the benefit compilation “Nutmeg State of Mind: In Honor of Newtown.”

As Connecticut continues to grapple with the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown last month, the local record label Obscure Me has contributed songs to a compilation of area bands to raise money for Mental Health America. Compiled by Terry Carr and Peter Kelly of, The 19-song collection, “Nutmeg State of Mind: In Honor of Newtown” features tracks by Obscure Me bands Ghost of Chance and FINS, along with tunes by M.T. Bearington, the Guru, Sidewalk Dave, Closely Watched Trains, Myty Konkeror and other leading lights of the local rock scene.

“With the nation’s eye turned toward our humble state in the Northeast for the first time in a while, we want to show exactly how Connecticut can respond to tragedy,” the compilation’s curators wrote in a statement. “We did what we knew we could do best by calling on our Connecticut friends who care about Connecticut as much as we do.”
