Oh, Cassius! Returns With ‘Carpenter’ From New Seven-Song EP

Oh-Cassius

Meredith DiMenna’s voice has been one to reckon with since her days fronting the sleek Bridgeport pop-rock band Saint Bernadette. As bands do, they broke up, and DiMenna teamed with John Torres in the more roots-oriented Oh, Cassius! The duo today released “Carpenter,” the first song from their forthcoming seven-song EP, “On Such a Full Sea We Are Now Afloat.”

Recorded in studios in southern Connecticut and upstate New York, the song is a rousing, folky number built atop a propulsive beat that frames acoustic and electric guitars, piano and bass, with synthesizers and cello. Torres sings lead in a drowsy, compelling voice, while DiMenna contributes honeyed backing harmonies.

The EP includes contributions from bassist Michael Libramento, of bassist for Grace Potter & the Nocturnals; cellist Dave Eggar, who has played on tracks by Frank Ocean and Coldplay; drummer Zachary Alford, who has played with David Bowie and the B-52’s; and Connecticut indie duo Mates of State, who sing on “Irish Goodbye.”

“On Such a Full Sea We Are Now Afloat” is due Oct. 14 through INgrooves Music Group. Oh, Cassius! opens for Deer Tick Sept. 20 at Infinity Hartford.
