This has been an excellent year for music so far, and the latest from Sea of Bees only makes it better.
“Songs for the Ravens” is the band’s first full-length, following last year’s “Bee Eee Pee” EP. Fronted by singer and songwriter Julie Ann Baenziger (known as Jules), the California band makes sweeping, intense music anchored by Baenziger’s arresting voice.
They’re giving away “Marmalade,” the fifth song on the album. It’s a mini-masterpiece, with layers of overdriven guitars and deep, heavy bass framing Baenziger’s breathy voice as it wafts over the propulsive rhythm.
It’s an excellent introduction to Sea of Bees, which releases “Songs for the Ravens” June 1 on Crossbill Records.
