Brotherly love, violent quarrels and rock ‘n’ roll: it’s the So So Glos, a Brooklyn quartet comprising brothers Alex and Ryan Levine, their step-brother from the age of 4, Zach Staggers, and non-blood relation but brother in spirit Matt Elkin.
After various playing together in various incarnations since they were kids, the Levines and Staggers formed the So So Glos in 2006, added Elkin and released a self-titled full-length album in 2007 (recorded despite Alex’s jaw being wired shut, the result of a squabble with Staggers) and teamed with promoter Todd P. to co-found a DIY performance/residential space in Bushwick, the Market Hotel.
The band is back Oct. 12 with a new EP, “Low Back Chain Shift,” and a slew of tour dates this fall with Matt & Kim and the Futureheads. They’re giving away the song “Lindy Hop,” a frothy, upbeat tune packed with guitars, keyboards and skronking (possibly keyboard-based) horns, and anchored by a tight, slinky bassline and spot-on drums.
