Tears Run Rings carries on dreamy pop sound of '90s band the Autocollants

Taking literally the old saying about absence making the heart grow fonder, former members of ’90s indie-pop band the Autocollants have put aside the differences that ended the band in 1997 to embark on a new project — from a distance.

Now calling themselves Tears Run Rings, Laura Watling, Matthew Bice, Ed Mazzucco and Dwayne Palasek record songs in three different studios in three different cities (Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles), swapping parts back and forth online until they’re satisfied.

It seems to be working just fine on “Reunion,” the free song from their forthcoming second album as Tears Run Rings. The song is dreamy and just a little lo-fi, with hazy vocals, bright, prickly guitars creating atmospheric layers of sound.

The album, fittingly titled “Distance,” is due Aug. 24, but the band is streaming it in its entirety via Facebook.
