The Thermals give away 'Never Listen to Me,' second single from new record

“Personal Life,” the latest from Portland, Ore., punk band The Thermals, hasn’t received rave reviews, which is too bad: the second single from the album is flat-out great.

“Never Listen To Me” is less explosive than the some of the band’s earlier work, and it hits harder as a result. It’s a heavily rhythmic tune, with bass and guitar locked in unison over a metronomic drum pattern as Hutch Harris sings searing warnings to a would-be lover. It’s riveting stuff.

The band released “Personal Life,” a lyrical travelogue through the ups and downs of relationships, last month on Kill Rock Stars. The Thermals are currently in the midst of a tour around the western part of the U.S., with dates running through Nov. 21.
