Thurston Moore drops new song from new band Chelsea Light Moving

Sonic Youth guitarist and Northampton man-about-town Thurston Moore has announced a new band, Chelsea Light Moving, in which he’s joined by guitarist Keith Wood, bassist Samara Lubelski and drummer John Moloney.

Together, the foursome recorded a batch of songs in May with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab in Easthampton, including the tune “Burroughs.” Naturally, it’s named for Beat writer William S. Burroughs, and it’s fierce — Sonic Youth-fierce, which is on the one hand a distressing sign that maybe Chelsea Light Moving is what Moore is doing after Sonic Youth, and not just in addition to Sonic Youth.

On the other hand, it’s a kick-ass jam with a tunefully abrasive guitar part that brings Moore all the way back from last year’s acoustic-ish “Demolished Thoughts” project. Download it via Matablog.
