Washington DC trio Western Affairs gives away single from debut EP, '2000'

While we’re on a dream-pop kick this week, with Seatraffic and, to a degree, Thieving Irons, let’s talk about Western Affairs.

The Washington DC trio isn’t new, exactly — singer Alex Lee started the band in 2009 — but it took a while to arrive at the current lineup, which consists of Lee, Davis Connors and Andrew Monborne. Together they make gauzy, textured pop with ringing guitars and synths that seem to float past, anchored by sturdy drumming with a light touch. Fans of Nada Surf will find something to like.

After putting out a pair of singles earlier this year (hear them via bandcamp), Western Affairs releases its 6-song debut EP, “2000,” July 10. Check out lead single “Laura.”
