Y La Bamba films video for 'Juniper,' the single from compelling LP 'Lupon'

One of the most gorgeous and compelling albums we’ve heard this year is Y La Bamba’s album “Lupon” (we haven’t found time to review it yet, but it’s coming — we promise).

Fronted by singer Luzelena Mendoza, the band draws on a combination of her strict Catholic upbringing, the harmonies of the traditional Mexican music she heard growing up and a debilitating bout of amoebic dysentery that nearly killed her.

Y La Bamba gave away the first single, “Juniper,” earlier this year, and now the band has released a video for the song, directed by Mateo Gamlen, who unknowingly mirrored her illness with his treatment for this clip.
