Austin duo Yellow Fever releases third EP, embarks on extensive summer tour

If you believe the comic strip that comes with the band’s press material, Yellow Fever is actually a pair of cats that studied up on back issues of Popular Mechanics and learned to build “fully functional lifelike human replicants.” We think maybe they’re stretching the truth a little: everyone knows cats can’t read.

Regardless, the Austin, Texas, duo certainly makes interesting music. Jennifer Moore and Adam Jones began playing together in 2006, and have since released three EPs and a 7-inch record of “minimal art pop.” “Bermuda Triangle,” the title track from their latest EP, is an excellent example, with spare angular arrangements of guitar drums and Moore’s curiously deep vocals.

The group this week launches an extensive two-month tour that starts Wednesday with Voxtrot in Washington D.C. and includes stints with Titus Andronicus and Thee Oh Sees, before wrapping up Aug. 17 in Lubbock, Texas. See the complete itinerary here.
