OK, klezmer fans, Yidstock is for you.
Happening July 11-15 at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Mass., Yidstock: A Festival of New Yiddish Music celebrates the eastern European Jewish musical tradition, and its more modern offshoots. Seth Rogovoy, author of “The Essential Klezmer,” programmed the festival with performances by Garmmy-winners the Klezmatics, Socalled, the Michael Winograd Trio, Hankus Netsky & the Hebrew National Salvage and Frank London’s Klezmer Brass Allstars with Eleanor Reissa.
In addition to performances, Yidstock features films about the music, a klezmer workshop and something called a klezmer brunch, which sounds like it could be delicious.
Festival passes are $75 for book center members, $100 for the general public, though tickets are available for individual events. More details and performance times are available here.
